Clever design nets Henry a major cash prize

ANU School of Art graduate Henry Wilson has been announced as the winner of this year’s Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award.
Henry’s winning entry was A Joint, a strong, multi-use joinery system. The highly flexible system, which uses pre-dimensional timber in up to four configurations, can be used as support for tables, benches, market stalls, shop fitouts and even temporary housing.
Henry will receive a $30,000 cash prize to help commercialise his design, along with a trip of his choice to one of three international design fairs – Index in Denmark, Design Miami or Interieur in Belgium.
Henry, who has studied his craft across the globe, aims to bring a functional approach to his designs.
“I endeavour to use intelligent and logical conceptual thought in the creation of my work in the hope it will carry my message of an ethically designed future,” he said.
